When it's your life on the line, the effects of being able to quit smoking are too powerful to ignore. Maybe you're a young or new smoker and you feel fine now, so you don't see why you have to quit smoking yet.

You brush off the excess coughing and flem, the yellow-tinged skin and teeth, the fact that you reek of cigarettes, and the premature wrinkles as minor effects from smoking that are far outweighed by the pleasure or calming effect you get by lighting up.

 

Maybe you've been smoking for forty years and you figure your body is beyond being able to see any of the positive effects reported by younger smokers who quit, so you continue to light up, you continue to throw hundreds, then thousands of dollars down the drain, and you continue to add layer upon layer of damage to your organs, healing system, and immune system.

Maybe the effects of nicotine withdrawal are enough to scare you away from bothering to try to quit smoking. Who wants to fight the craving to smoke, all the while feeling irritable, tired, hungry, nervous, anxious, impatient, and possibly nauseous and headache-ridden when it's so much easier to light up? Well, who wants to experience an effect of quitting smoking like living a longer, healthier life?

The effects of being able to quit smoking are immediate, even if the overwhelming feeling you are faced with is that you have to fight the craving to smoke again.

The longer you go without smoking, the more positive effects being able to quit smoking will have on your body. Did you know that five to fifteen years after your last cigarette, no matter if you had been smoking for years before that, your chances for a number of cancers, including that of the lung, throat, and mouth, are cut in half and your chances for heart disease and a stroke are equal to that of a person who has never smoked?

That within one year after you quit smoking, your chances for coronary heart failure will be cut in half? Did you know the effects of being able to quit smoking will help you be able to breathe better and cough and wheeze far less in only three to six months?

That in only weeks after you've quit smoking, your blood circulation will return to normal and your nicotine cravings will cease; that in a mere three days your energy levels will increase and your breathing will become more labored; that in two days your body will be free of nicotine and your sense of taste and smell will be enhanced? Did you know that your body will see the effects of being able to quit smoking-a normal heart rate and blood pressure-in only twenty minutes after your last cigarette?

If the positive effects that being able to quit smoking has on your body are not enough to motivate you to stop, perhaps you'll be motivated by the financial effect. How much do you spend on tobacco each year? How about the superficial effects?

Don't you want to smell better, look better, and have whiter teeth and healthier skin? How about the loved-ones effects? Don't you want those around you to be able to breathe easier and to enjoy more of your company in nonsmoking restaurants? No matter your excuse for refusing to quit smoking, you can't deny that any one of these many positive effects of being able to quit smoking is worth a hundred times more than any "positive" you get from continuing to light up.
