Smoking Health Risks

If you are a smoker you know all about the different health risks associated with smoking. You have heard them all and you are now just phasing out whenever another report is issued. It is so much easier to ignore the facts and to continue on with your bad habit of smoking. But do you really know exactly how smoking is affecting your health?

You already know that smoking can affect your health in many ways including the possibility of getting lung cancer, emphysema, or even having a stroke or a heart attack. On the other hand, you also know a lot of people who have these same medical problems and they did not smoke. So what should worry about? Your chances are fairly even either way, right?

The facts are showing that smoking has a direct negative affect on your health. The information has been there for years and the researchers have been telling us all about it, unfortunately, many of us have ignored what they were saying and just continued smoking. So, is it really to our benefit to quit or should we cut back a bit and smoke a few less cigarettes every day? The choice is a difficult one to make if you are addicted to the nicotine. Your body has become accustomed to receiving this drug which is now known to be as addictive as heroine. If you do decide to quit, your body will go through withdrawals and have to adjust to your new lifestyle.

Your health will definitely improve if you stop smoking. This is hard to imagine since you have been smoking for years and were raised in a home where both of your parents also smoked. It is almost a family tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. This, however, might be the time to change that tradition. You can improve your health dramatically from being someone who deals with the symptoms of smoker's health problems-shortness of breath, high blood pressure, and the list goes on.

A smoker can improve their health and the health of everyone around them if they just quit. It is not easy to quit smoking as your body is addicted and there will a difficult transition period surrounding this change you are trying to make to improve your health. You may receive a lot of good encouragement from other members of the family and, who knows, maybe your spouse will join you in trying to achieve improved health by also quitting.

Take the initiative and your smoking health will improve. You will feel better and have more energy to enjoy the things you always liked to do but were always too tired to try anymore. Your excuse was that you were older when in fact; it was your smoking health issues that kept you from being as active as you always wanted.
