Smoking Tar Is Not Good For You
You have heard about all of the bad chemicals that your body inhales when you smoke. The nicotine, the carbon monoxide and now they are talking about the tar. Most people associate the nicotine and the tar and think of them as the same byproduct when in fact they are two separate chemicals that you get when you smoke. Nicotine is a chemical that acts like a narcotic that affects the entire body and makes you crave more of it. That is why is so difficult to stop after years and years of smoking cigarettes. Your system wants and needs the nicotine that you have been giving it.
Tar is a different substance that is released as a cigarette burns and you inhale the tar with every puff you take. It has been found that it is the tar in the cigarette that is the main cause of lung cancer, larynx cancer, throat cancer, and even cancer in the mouth or on the tongue. In addition, the tar can aggravate other types of bronchial and respiratory diseases. It is currently estimated that a person who smokes about one pack of cigarettes per day will inhale some where between one-half a cup to a full cup of tar each year. In addition, the tar that enters your lungs will create a coating inside comparable to the soot you would locate in your chimney-it is this that can infect your lungs and cancer can begin growing. Try thinking about this a different way. Remember the tar that was used on roads and roofs many years ago? It was a thick black gooey substance that was gross to see and had an even worse smell when it was hot. Now instead of thinking about the smoke you are inhaling, think about a cup of tar and how that is what is actually going into your body, that thick black gooey stuff and it is coating the inside of your lungs. Were you able to visualize what it is like when you are smoking tar and letting this get into your body? If this visualization is not enough, go to your local library and check out a few books on lung cancer. There will be many detailed colored photographs throughout these books that will show you exactly what the lungs of a smoker look like. The pictures will be graphic and hard to look at, but just think, these could be your lungs in a few short years. Keep thinking about smoking tar and how it will affect your body. Every time you light up that cigarette try to visualize this and then think back to the picture of lungs that are filled with cancer. You might eventually wake up and realize that you do not want to do this to your body. |
