To Quit Smoking Is All That Matters
What does it take to quit smoking? If you have never smoked a cigarette in your life, this question is irrelevant for you. As a nonsmoker you think, just stop smoking-it is just a habit and habits can be broken. It will just take a little spunk and backbone and a bit of determination to do this. How can anyone be so wrong about this? To quit smoking for someone who has been doing it for many years is not easy. The smoker knows all about the health risks involved but in spite of these, to quit smoking takes a lot more than just a little spunk. It takes a lot of determination, hard work and going through the difficult period known as withdrawals. Yes, nicotine is drug that your body craves and needs if you have been smoking for many years-and, your body will not willing or easily want to give up the nicotine that it has been receiving.
For the average person to quit smoking takes a major commitment from them that they really want to do this. Without that commitment, they will fail. There will always be a reason why they need to start smoking again-even if these reasons seem to be minor to the rest of us. No one can stop smoking and not start again without the determination that they want to do this for themselves. They can not stop if they are trying to do this for someone else-the determination and drive just are not there. If you are serious that you want to quit smoking, you need to take that first step and tell people that this is what you are going to do and give them a date as to when this is going to start. Setting a date makes your decision firmer and shows a real commitment to what you are planning. Take the time to get rid of all cigarettes, ash trays and lighters that are in your home, office or car. Out of reach is probably one of the most ways to help you quit smoking. If cigarettes are just sitting around where you can easily access them, you will fail-it will just be too hard to resist. You will be able to quit smoking, but it will take time for you to completely adjust to being a nonsmoker. In fact, some people who have smoked and then quit say that the urge for a cigarette can appear from nowhere even decades after they stopped. But, they also say that you become stronger to resisting the urges and that to quit smoking is one the best things they ever did for themselves. |
